Which green flags are essential for a relationship to succeed? In this video, I share five of the most important relationship green flags.

What are green flags in a relationship? They are the qualities and behaviors that contribute to a strong foundation for a healthy partnership. This includes open communication, mutual respect, shared values, emotional support, genuine interest in each other’s well-being, and a willingness to compromise and resolve conflict quickly and kindly. We focus so much on red flags, but it’s equally important to identify the top five green flags to look for in a partner.

5 Green Flags in Relationships

1. Kind and respectful: They are kind to you and others, especially those in the service industry or strangers. When someone shows kindness without expectation of anything in return, that is a character trait that’s deeply embedded in them, which will lead to a more respectful relationship.

2. Accountable: They take ownership for what they’ve done in the past and work on doing better in the present. They don’t badmouth their exes, and they apologize sincerely for any pain they may cause you instead of deflecting responsibility.

3. Fight fair: When there’s a disagreement, they don’t get defensive, stonewall, or criticize. They are open and willing to have hard conversations with the intention to repair the relationship.

4. Prioritize caring for themselves and you: They practice self-care and support you in caring for yourself in all ways – physically, emotionally, intellectually, financially, and sexually.

5. Words and actions align: They say what they mean and they follow through. They are consistent. This creates trust and safety.

Relationships are hard. Disagreements come up. People get on each other’s nerves. Life can be stressful. But when you choose a partner who displays these green flags, you will build a strong foundation for a supportive, nurturing, and harmonious relationship. This leads to long-term satisfaction and mutual happiness.
