A Prayer to Believe That Nothing Is Too Hard for the Lord
By Christine Perry

“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?” – Jeremiah 32:27 NKJV

What is your impossible situation? It may be a diagnosis, a mediocre marriage, a wayward child, infertility, extended singleness, a broken relationship, perpetual setbacks, or unbearable lossWe’ve all come to a dead end in some area of our lives. If you haven’t, it’s coming.

So, how do you believe that nothing is too hard for the Lord when you can’t seem to find a way out? In Mark 9, we see a father who is desperate to find healing for his son. He says to the Lord, “But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” Jesus kindly says all things are possible to those who believe. The father says through tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”

I think the best place to start when we are struggling to believe is to be honest with the Lord and admit that we want to believe but are wrestling with doubt.

I remember one season, I felt like I’d come to the end of my faith. I prayed and said something along the lines of, “Lord, I cannot hold on any longer. I don’t see why all this heartbreak and letdown has happened and I don’t know how it’ll ever be turned around. I’m losing hope.”

In 2 Timothy 2:13, it says, “If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.” Our hearts, minds, bodies, and faith will fail, but God won’t ever fail. He will never leave us or forsake us. Psalm 94:14 says, “For the Lord will not cast off His people, Nor will He forsake His inheritance.”

The second thing we can do is to look at what God has done in the past.

  • God gave Sarah a child past childbearing years
  • Parted the Red Sea
  • Brought forth water from a rock
  • Fed over a half-million Israelites in the desert for 40 years
  • Had a pagan king pay for the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem
  • Made an ax head float to the surface of the water
  • Annihilated an enemy army while the Israelites sang
  • Saved three men from a fiery furnace
  • Shut the mouth of lions
  • Raised the dead
  • Gave sight to the blind
  • Healed lepers
  • Turned water into wine
  • Walked on water
  • Fed the 5,000 with five loaves and two fish
  • Took away the punishment for our sins forever

When we begin listing all God has done, it helps remind us that, truly, there is nothing too hard for Him. But, sometimes, these truths take a while to sink in, which is why we must be in prayer often and our face in our Bibles daily. It’s our line of hope, and that hope anchors us in the most turbulent storms.

Let’s pray:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You that You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. That being said, what You have done in the past, You can do it again. But Lord, we know You see the entire picture, and we only see a sliver. So, I ask that You would give us the faith to not only believe in You but trust and rest in You.

Father, no plans of Yours can be thwarted. But, God, we come to You with our requests, asking, knocking, and seeking Your take on our situations because this is what You tell us to do. You tell us to be like the persistent widow who would not rest until she received justice. Help us to be people of prayer so that when we hit a wall, we will drop to our knees, knowing full well that You’re able, but then help us to get back up after we’ve petitioned heaven and trust You with whatever outcome You choose. Because what You choose will be what is best for the longest amount of time for the greatest number of people.

Thank You that we can come to You broken and know that You will never cast us away, even when we doubt.
Lord, we believe, help our unbelief. Amen!
